Who does the earth belong to while painting the wind?!» by Petrit Halilaj.

Petrit Halilaj (*1986) does not shy away from using his personal biography as
a source for his work. The Kosovan artist’s childhood memories, centred on the
drama of war and the subsequent refugee tragedy, are the motor for the
creation of complex and often monumental installations. For those affected the
search for an understanding of home is still a significant theme today. This
is influenced both by world history as well as a personal definition of one’s
own identity. In his artistic practice Halilaj uses simple materials such as
earth but also live chickens and found archives from vanished museums in
Kosovo to illustrate this permanent quest. His exhibitions are precisely
conceived narrations that know how to move an audience.

Berlin Fashion Week – Backstage @ Julian Zigerli

Berlin Fashion Week is over and here we have the pictures of our Backstage coverage by Alexandra Waespi for the show of Julian Zigerli summer / srping 2013 entitled « My Daddy Was A Military Pilot ». It took place in the beautiful Cruise and Callas Gallery starting off with a runway show in the cellar and followed by a presentation upstairs in the gallery.
We will of course remember the military jackets and pilot-inspired jackets, reflective materials, sequence pouches, big bags and deconstructed baseball hats.

Alexandra Waespi shot these beautiful pictures with an analog film and polaroids.

The Dream of the Cold War: Poems 1998 – 2008 by Grant Cogswell

Grant Cogswell’s poetic ode to progressive politics, The Dream of the Cold War, has its roots in the deep history of radical activism in Seattle and the North West. Pivoting around the tragic suicide of Congressman Marion Zioncheck, in 1936, a defenestration Cogswell has called « an assassination without a trigger man, » the multi-part epic title poem moves dreamily across the 20th century and into the spectacle of Seattle’s neoliberal transformation in the early 2000s. Lyrical, searching, crazy, Whitmanesque — these poems are the blood that runs through the body of a committed activist.

Poet and activist Grant Cogswell spent the 90s and 00s fighting political battles in his hometown of Seattle. Famously, he helped initiate a grassroots campaign to build a city-wide monorail in a place that had failed to build rail transit in nearly a century of trying. His grassroots proposal won, triggering an avalanche of legal maneuvers and politicking that ultimately subverted the mandate and stopped the project. The story is captured in Stephen Gyllenhaal’s soon-to-be-released film, « Grassroots. »

At the event, a limited edition zine, Swedish Pizza, will be available as well as a silkscreen printed flyer by Spencer Sweeney! Brad Pitt’s Dog, essays on fame, death & punk, is a Punch and Judy show of intellectual diaspora making mincemeat of pop culture sacred cows. This is the first book of essays by long-time and renowned chronicler of underground culture, Johan Kugelberg, whose previous books include Vintage Rock T-shirts, True Norwegian Black Metal, Born in the Bronx, The Velvet Underground – New York Art, Beauty is in the Street and the forthcoming Punk – An Aesthetic.

Mashing up lo-brow and hi-brow culture together in readable, funny and provocative ways, Brad Pitt’s Dog explores topics ranging from the psychogeography of record fairs, eulogies for Michael Jackson and Malcolm McLaren, to a discussion of satire on Youtube, and essays on artists Dash Snow, Daido Moriyama, Carl Johan De Geer and Ragnar Persson, amongst other enthusiastic writings on photography, art, punk, and popular culture.

Yes, Novembre Magazine was present at the show of John Lawrence Sullivan for this Men’s Paris Fashion Week ss13 collection.
Our conclusion: Some interesting pieces, we will remember the sober lines of the silhouettes over the looks, the mix of materials from mat to brilliant and the funny haircuts too.
