Koons, likely the best-known living artist, has for decades been causing a furore with the combination of popular and high culture that informs his art.

Our extensive presentation focuses on three central series of works – The New, Banality and Celebration – which represent crucial stages in Koons’s development and lead to the nucleus of his thinking and creative activity. The New comprises the ready-made-like cleaning appliances of his early period, symbols of newness and purity. Banality includes those traditionally crafted sculptures in porcelain and wood which have since become (post-)modern icons. Finally, in the Celebration series, on which Koons has been working for almost twenty years, appear high-gloss steel sculptures of unique material perfection, and large-format paintings in which the artist celebrates childhood in a veritably baroque way. Koons’s equally spectacular and subtle works are repeatedly concerned with themes such as innocence, beauty, sexuality and happiness. These reflect his conception of an art that is accessible to every viewer.

Centre Culturel Suisse – Paris. Press Vernissage Friday the 11th from 1PM
136 Rue Championnet
75018 Paris, France

Vernissage of new expositions. Featuring Andreas Züst (1947-2000): He was a collector, bibliophile, an editor, a painter, a photographer, a patron of the arts, a meteorologist, a creature of the night, Züst was an Artist with a capital A. He would record everything he found interesting and everything was part of his life. This remarkable quality is visible in his collection that under a unique form has captured the exact spirit of the lifestyle of the 1980′s-1990´s. The pieces of his collection reflects not only his various interests but his sense of absurdity together with an insatiable curiosity.

The exhibition “Météreologies mentales” present a selection of 180 pieces by 42 artists: Ian Anüll, Bertram, Louise Bourgeois, Anton Bruhin, Joe Coleman, William N. Copley, Andreas Dobler, Marc-Antoine Fehr, Peter Fischli / David Weiss, Agnes Fuchs, Sergio Galli, Johannes Geuer, H.R. Giger, Max Grüter, Alex Hanimann, Arno Hölzel, Manfred Hölzel, Dorothy Iannone, Martin Kippenberger & Albert Oehlen, Fred Engelbert Knecht, Friedrich Kuhn, Nanne Meyer, Ann Noël, Walter Pfeiffer, Sigmar Polke, Markus Raetz, Ugo Rondinone, Dieter Roth, Hans Schärer, Klaudia Schifferle, Jean-Frédéric Schnyder, Martin Senn, Louis Soutter, Hugo Suter, André Thomkins, Timmermahn, Peter Volkart, Tom Wasmuth, David Weiss, Emmett Williams et Andreas Züst.

The piece on the court is devoted to a mono-graphical presentation by David Weiss. Indeed Züst´s collection includes a group important drawings by Weiss made between 1974 and 1979, year when he starts his activity with Peter Fischli. His drawings, of a narration kind, are generally presented in series. The banality, the city and the humor that will be found in works of Fischli / Weiss are already present in this pieces. However, the drawing, a personal activity by excellence, won’t almost be present in the duo collaboration.

Charles Irvin: New Directions in Alchemy

Opening Thursday May 10th from 6 pm
Exhibition until June 17thAt the Graff Mourgue D’Algue Gallery
CH – 1205 GENEVA

Los Angeles-based Irvin deals with inner landscape and scenery constructed from common icons such as pyramids, jesus, aliens or the misfits skull. His education and personal experience impregnated these images into his subconscious. Raised as a Catholic in Fundamentalist Christian North Texas, he developed an affinity for Christian imagery.

In New Directions in Alchemy most of the paintings are haunted by crescent moon figures. Sometimes they are depicted as alien divinities lounging on a pyramid, sometimes they perform scatological rituals in sterile rooms. The ensemble is blue suspended in space, a parallel universe where you’ll be enlightened by an infinity fountain and where rock hard vanities emerge through vaginas. We never would have believed these new directions where possible to initiate, but we felt they were there somewhere in our very own alchemy. Irvin’s work constantly clashes the subconscious and the conscious.

Charles Irvin’s work was included in exhibitions at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, White Columns in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg and currently in The Art Of Cooking curated by Hanne Mugass.
